Free-Spirited Harmonious Movement

The focus of tonight’s class is infusing the movement of our upper extremities with the energies of Aikido and Duncan Dance. Combined, these become free-spirited harmonious movement.

The energy of Aikido is the dance of harmony and elegance.
The energy of Duncan Dance is free-spirited and graceful.

When the two merge, we have the dance of harmonious, elegant, graceful, free-spirited, playful, uninhibited and honest full-body expression.

We play with circles, spirals, and spontaneous movement.  We not only blend with the space but we converse with it using our bodies.

What these two movements forms have in common is harmony. We allow our hands, finger, wrist, arm, shoulder, and chest movements to originate from this place of harmony and joy.

Open your imagination and join me for class tonight from 5:30pm – 6:30pm at Open Flight Studio in the University District.

Aikido and Upper Extremities

The focus of this morning's class is infusing our movements of the upper extremities with the energy of Aikido: the dance of harmonious spherical motion.

The energy of Aikido asks us to integrate circles, spirals and harmony into our movements with our arms, hands, wrists, fingers, and shoulders. We focus awareness on our hara (power center - lower belly) and practice moving our upper extremities from this center. We are blend our movements within our own bodies and with the space around us.

Join me at 10:30am at Delilah's Belly Dance Studio in Fremont.

Energy of Aikido

Our class focus this morning is incorporating the energy of Aikido into our dance. In Aikido, we use spirals, circular movements, our breath, the hara (moving from our center), and we extend our energy into space with ease instead of force.

Aikido means; "Ai" to meet, "Ki" spirit, and "Do" the way. In other words, Aikido is the way of harmony. It is the way of the peaceful warrior.

Join me at 11am at Fresh Fitness and Dance as we dance our peaceful warrior/ess with harmonious spherical motion.

Canta Debut!

I will be teaching a brand new routine tonight called "Canta."

Tonight we will be playing with the energy of Aikido.

According to George Leonard, an Aikido master that the Nia co-founders encountered as they learned this movement modality: Aikido is best understood through the word G-R-A-C-E.

G - ground before you move.
R - relax to efficiently and effectively respond.
A - awareness is the way to perceive everything in order to make a decision and take action.
C - center, touch your center, find it, stay with it and listen to it.
E - energy, use chi energy to direct your attention; energy follows attention.

Join me at 5:30pm at Open Flight Studio in dancing the dance of the peaceful warrior(ess') with GRACE.
