Birthday's and Beginning's for a Community Member

Tonight we are celebrating a milestone birthday for one of our community members. She celebrates her 60th birthday on Wednesday but I am not convinced that she is turning 60. She is a beautiful and youthful human being. She has requested the most requested Nia song in my history of teaching: Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Thievery Corporation. We'll be moving and grooving to this tune as we board the spaceship at tonight's class!

According to dictionary.com, a birthday is "a day marking or commemorating the origin, founding, or beginning of something."

In the spirit of birthday's, the focus of tonight's class is the celebration of beginnings. The intent is to be attentive to the beginning of each movement and follow it through in a joyful and celebratory style.

See you tonight - 5:30pm at Open Flight Studio in the University District.

New Beginnings and Honoring the Feminine Spirit

Today is double Nia day! This morning I begin weekly Sunday a.m. classes at Delilah’s Belly Dance Studio in Fremont (10:30am) and am thrilled to be co-teaching a special benefit class with Gretchen Musgrove tonight from 4pm – 5pm at the Civetta Dance Space Studio in Greenwood.

Today is May Day. The old Celtic name for May Day is Beltane. May Day/Beltane mark the mid-way point between the seasons of spring and summer. It is considered a time of rebirth, new beginnings, fertility, and celebration of abundance in nature after a long winter. In ancient times, Beltane marked the beginning of summer.

It is fitting that the forecast calls for abundant sunshine and warmth. I hope that the day is auspicious for my new Sunday teaching schedule!

The focus of this morning’s class is the celebration of new beginnings. The intent is to bless and honor the space (Delilah’s) so that Nia can grow and flourish there.

Beltane is often celebrated with a bonfire. We will not be lighting any real fires in class this morning but I anticipate we will generate heat and inner fire!

Class is from 10:30am – 11:30am at Delilah’s Belly Dance Studio in Fremont.

The benefit class tonight will be held to support our friend and Nia student, Gina Chapman, in her goal to do the Susan G. Komen 3-day Breast Cancer Walk.

The evening’s class focus is on honoring the feminine by opening the chest. The chest protects and nurtures the heart and is also the center of our heart energy. It is where we perceive love originates.

Join Gretchen and I as we lovingly facilitate a class to honor the heart-centered feminine Spirit.

Class is $15 and will be held from 4pm – 5pm at the Civetta Dance Space in Greenwood.

Happy Dancing!

Joy, Community, Birthdays, Sunshine and Celebration!

“To dance, put your hand on your heart and listen to the sound of your soul.”
- Eugene Louis Faccuito

The focus of this morning's class is Joy, Community and Celebration! I have put together a special playlist of songs for one of my students who just recently celebrated a milestone birthday. I selected some of her favorites and included other songs that are uplifting to help us celebrate both her birthday and the sunshine!

Join us in joyfully dancing our hearts out in celebration of community, friendship, birthdays and sunshine.

Class from 10:30am - 11:30am at Open Flight Studio in the University District.

Unleash Your Inner Fool

The focus of tonight’s class is celebrating foolishness. That’s right! It’s April Fools’ Day.

The intent is to relax and not take thing so seriously. It’s time to unleash your most playful, foolish and mischievous self.

It’s Friday night. It’s the end of the workweek or school week for most people. It’s April 1st. Feel free to come to class in a wig, funky glasses, pom poms..Let’s play!

Class from 6pm - 7pm at Delilah's Belly Dance Studio in Fremont.

Full Moon Dancing

The focus of this morning’s class is celebrating the full moon and the last day of winter.

In astrology, the full moon is considered to be a time of completion. It’s time when, as if a gardener tending to a garden, you can step back and assess your efforts and honor the work you’ve done.

Astrologer Jan Spiller says that there is an opportunity for insight and progress inherent in the phase of the Full Moon. It can be a time to heighten your awareness of how you would like things to be in your life and experience the empowerment to make changes.

With gratitude for our accomplishments during the winter months and with a spirit of Full-ness, let us joyously dance into spring and to another season of moving closer to our dreams.

Class from 11am-12pm at Fresh Fitness and Dance in Wallingford.

Celebration in Wallingford!

Tonight I teach my first Nia class at the new studio Fresh Fitness and Dance in Wallingford. The studio opened for business this Monday, January 10, 2011.

I will be teaching at this studio Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 7:30pm and Saturdays from 11am – 12pm. My classes at Fresh Fitness and Dance are open to everyone. You may use and purchase one of my class cards and have the opportunity to take classes at all of my locations or you can become a Fresh member and take my classes along with other classes offered there.

Our class focus tonight is Celebration! I love to mark new beginnings with a celebratory spirit. Tonight is no exception. It’s the beginning of a new class at a new location for me and Fresh’s first week offering classes to the public!

Come and join me in celebrating our bodies, movement, dance, self-expression and new beginnings tonight at 6:30pm.
